"The Mountain Top" is for students and adult viewers - to ensure that the material is appropriate and engaging for middle- and- high school students, a panel of students previewed appropriate portions of the film and gave their input. Based on teacher data and student input, "The Mountain Top" far surpassed other documentaries on this era. Thanks to our young critics, the film was then tweaked to "perfection"
"The Mountain Top" was originally created due to a teacher's need for appropriate and comprehensive material on the American Civil Rights Movement. Because the documentary was created with the classroom in mind, it will soon be available with a teacher's guide complete with lesson plans and supplemental materials suitable for classrooms of all types.
Materials are appropriate for social studies and language arts/English classrooms. It will address content, a time line of events, supplemental documents from the era, use of language, reading strategies, classroom discussion prompts and writing prompts.
Like the speeches of our civil rights leaders, this film is intended for all academic levels...(although EKM recommends it for 7th grade and up.)
